Competition for startups in several verticals of the chain for the prevention of losses related to food waste in the field in line with the Sustainable Development Goals
The Food Loss Challenge aims to identify disruptive companies with a global impact on the fruit and vegetable production chain in order to reduce food loss.
The competition will bring together startups from Brazil in four verticals:
A team of judges from different segments of the ecosystem will make the best startup in each segment.
Startups focused on innovation, production, agricultural technology, food safety, transportation and storage of fruits and vegetables
Startups that bring solutions to reduce production losses in the fruit and vegetable field with disruptive and global impact innovation.

Brazilian startups
Most innovative startup in production processes, new cultivation methodologies and post-cultivation protection, fruit and vegetable production with higher added value
Most innovative startup in agricultural technology, technologies to reduce loss in harvest and post-harvest; cleaner and more sustainable processes, reduction of consumption of natural resources for agricultural industry and food
Most innovative startup in processes and systems that increase the resistance and shelf-life of the crops.
Startups with innovative solutions in transport with traceability, new forms of packaging and storage, solutions to increase product resistance during transport and storage.
The Challenge is an initiative of Bayer’s Life Hub and has as partners the FoodTech Hub Br, the Ministry of Agriculture, and Embrapa.
In the selection process, three calls will be made.

Third Call:05/08/2021
During the call’s process mentors will be allocated national and international to help in the development of the Startup.
Five startups will be selected per category for the final Each Startup will have 07 minutes for the pitch with 03 minutes for the Q&A.
A select group of judges representing the agricultural industry, academia, venture capital, entrepreneurs and government will evaluate and choose the winners of each category.
The prize for each winner will be R$10,000.00 (ten thousand reais) in credit for a trip to visit knowledge spaces related to the category. The organizing committee, together with the startup, will define the place to be visited.
The pre-qualification will be done with the startups that register for the FOOD LOSS CHALLENGE by filling out the indicated form;

The startups qualified by the evaluating committee will be known on August 23, 2021.
Start of scheduling for presentations, if necessary, August 24, 2021
September 6, 2021.
The selected startups will be informed by the end of September 13, 2021.
The selected startups will have the opportunity to present their company to the jury on September 29, 2021.
